| Dear Friends, At MB&F, our small team is used to a pretty hectic pace… but the upcoming 12 days between September 23rd and October 4th will be… INSANE. To be honest, we’re not quite sure how we’ll get through this… In chronological order, we start this mad run with the HM4 Only Watch, which goes to auction on September 23rd. We then launch our much-expected fifth Machine on October 4th… and the same day, we open our first brand concept store, in the heart of Geneva! | | | On September 23rd, at 4pm Monaco time, the Only Watch auction takes place and we need to make it happen! For those who missed out on the action: “Only Watch” is the high-flying charity auction in Monaco, for which 40 of the greatest watch brands join forces with one goal: find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a terrible disease that steals the lives of children. At MB&F we teamed up with Chinese artist Huang Hankang to create a solid gold panda bear flying on HM4’s twin jets, symbolising the only way children can escape the paralysing disease today: through their dreams. The panda and his reins have been micro-engineered to be completely detachable, transforming this Piece Unique HM4 from flying machine back to Horological Machine. | | We’re counting on you to give the Flying Panda and his HM4 the ride of their lives – and do the right thing while you’re at it! You’ll find all the details regarding the auction, organised by Antiquorum, here | | | You can bid in person live at the auction but also by phone or online – but in any case, you’ll need to register with Antiquorum beforehand. You can also place an absentee bid if you’re not available during the auction. We all need to act on September 23rd! » REGISTER HERE | | | | | MB&F is founded on one very simple ideal: to create every year a radically new Horological Machine. HM1 upset the status quo in 2007. HM2 took MB&F further into unchartered territory in 2008… and a year later, HM3 demonstrated in 2009 that we were in some sort of alternate reality. Finally, in 2010, we presented our most radical Machine to date: the HM4 “Thunderbolt”. What could possibly follow in 2011? You’ll find out on October 4th, when we unveil the new Machine simultaneously in Singapore and Mexico City. Unconfirmed reports mention that my friends Kari Voutilainen and Jean-François Mojon might have an idea of what’s going on… | | | | As if all that was not enough, there’s more: on the same day, we open our very first “M.A.D Gallery”, right in the heart of Geneva. The address is rue Verdaine 11 just a few steps away from our offices and workshops. The M.A.D Gallery is much more than a boutique – as its name implies, it’s a Gallery. You’ll obviously find the complete range of our Horological Machines, but you’ll also discover carefully-curated pieces from around the world, which make our hearts beat faster: to give you a little preview, amazing ‘Machine Lights’ from Berlin; beautiful alien machines by a Chinese artist; kinetic art crafted by an English artist-engineer team with a great sense of humour; sleekly-designed machines from Slovenia… and more on the way. The common thread? They’re all machines, as seen by artists, designers, photographers and other creators from across the planet. Did I mention that “M.A.D” stands for “Mechanical Art Devices”? For more info on the M.A.D Gallery, feel free to contact the Gallery Manager, Isabelle Boutantin, who just joined us a few weeks ago: ib@mbandf.com | | May the Force be with us for these Insane 12 Days... As always, thanks for your continued enthusiasm and support! With our very best regards, | | Maximilian Büsser Owner & Chief Creative Officer | | September 2011 / www.mbandf.com | |
